  Ray Naylor vs. Chino Larea

Ray Naylor: 5'9, 150

Not intimidated by Ray's bravado, Chino rains blows down upon the pinned mat grappler

Power vs Technique: The newbie throws the veteran around with a powerful, crushing bearhug

Ray takes control of his muscled foe as he leans back in a spine-bending, bulging boston crab

Unique choke hold!: Ray reminds Chino of his place in the BG hierarchy...beneath his foot

Ray's lean musculature bulges and swells as he pours his all into the blatant choke

"Big Boy" versus Mr. Cool Calm and Coiled!

This is a stunning match-up of contrasts: The smooth chested Naylor vs the hirsute, bearded rookie, and a skilled mat technician vs a newbie who relies on strength rather than skill. But they are alike in being hot-tempered and having larger-than-life personalities and egos which demand domination and victory. Chino make a spectacular debut and his big bulge would make a highlight of any crotch-watch reel. Ray is cool and calm until threatened with defeat and then the masochistic snake in him slithers out and coils around his prey. Sexy, sweaty and suspenseful, it's a hell of a hot opener for this seminal series!

"I'm the one who's gonna beat your ass," Chino announces, stepping on the BG East mat for the first time. It's a brazen proclamation, especially directed against Ray Naylor, one of the scrappiest mat wrestlers on the roster. The last guy to take Ray on in a mat contest was Tim Messina earlier this year. By the time Naylor was done with him, all that was left of Messina was a stump. But Chino is different. Hairy-chested, muscular, bearded, inked-up skinheads with smoldering good looks are a category unto themselves. Throw in top-notch macho posturing and a propensity for roughing up his grappling with stiff closed-fist punches, and we're looking at a formidable new presence in the wrestling underground.

If Ray is daunted by his mouthy opponent, it sure doesn't show. Ray is famously taciturn. He's ready to rumble, and he takes the rookie's boasts for stalling tactics: "Are we going to get this started or just, uh, walk around and ...?" Chino cuts him off, saying, "I'm gonna shut you up," and in a flash the two are locked up collar and elbow. Ray drops down to his knees, taking Chino down with him and clipping on a side headlock. But the "big boy," as Ray calls him, is a lot of man to manage, and in seconds Chino hooks an arm behind Ray's knee, heaves our man about a foot and a half off the mat, and slams him down hard.

Quick to retaliate, Naylor flips the big boy over his shoulders, secures one arm between his legs, and delivers four solid punches to the midsection. The lines of the match are already drawn. What we have here is a battle between technical prowess and brute strength. BG East has hosted many such contests, each one a guaranteed knockout, often in more than one sense of the word knockout. Dexterously, Ray weaves his right leg into Chino's left leg while maintaining his leglock on the right arm. It's a smart tactic for reining in an adversary. In stark contrast to Ray's controlled technique, Chino muscles out of the hold, gets on top of Naylor, and starts punching wildly. Chino is not intimidated by Ray's skill and cool control.

In a hurry to prove himself, Chino rushes to a trusty and often deadly rear naked choke, hoping to snuff our man out fast. Ray judo-throws the big boy overhead and retaliates for the attempted knockout with a sharp elbow drop to the solar plexus. Yet Ray has a long way to go if he means to exhaust the hardy and determined mat rookie. He subjects Chino to a battery of physical assaults designed to tire and weaken his heavy and unwieldy foe: headlocks, body slams, punches, and elbow drops. The strategy pays off when Naylor wins the first fall with a figure-four headscissors. But this triumph is far from decisive - or final!

Chino pounds and slams his way out of nearly every hold Ray puts him in. A third of the way through the match both wrestlers are grunting, gasping for air, hearts pounding, wearing down quickly. After Chino evens the score with a full nelson and body scissor combo, it's time to raise the question whether his powerful legs are too much for even a wily tactician like Naylor to control. The long struggle makes both men testy. Even Naylor, who usually wrestles with ice water in his veins, is pushed to a scalding fury. In the end, submissions are not enough. Neither of these men will be satisfied with anything less than a knockout finish.
