"Say 'Night Night,' Rainbow Fish!"

Ace Aarons is shaking his head no. He's had it with the "subpar competition" BG East keeps pawning off on him. He wants a real match with a wrestler of substance, not some kid he has to break in because the company wants to tout the little know-nothing as the Next Big Thing. In this case, we're talking about Cody Blayde, who wowed the crowd at Wrestling with Pride 2. He's hot, good looking, and itching to make a reputation for himself by taking on tough competition. Cody contends that his positive attitude and youthful exuberance are a match for Ace's years of ring experience. Ace just stares at him, unable to wipe the wolfish grin from his face. "I'm always the one that's the last man standing," Ace replies, matter-of-factly, then adds, "That gives me an idea. ... I challenge you to a 'last man standing' match."

The only way to win a "last man standing" match is to knock your opponent's lights out. We're talking "clean out," meaning the opponent is unable to get back on his feet by the count of 10. Cody is in the midst of accepting the challenge when Ace boots him in the midsection and clobbers the youth's cranium with a heavy, high-arching haymaker. (Then, the bell sounds ... somewhat tardily.) Cody's on his knees, perfectly positioned for a well-aimed follow-up kick to the chest. It's an old and revered bruiser truism: "If you want to win, you have to catch your man with his guard down."

Ace pulls Cody up by his head and then hammers him back down with his fist and the heel of his boxing shoe. In seconds, it's clear that Cody doesn't have enough hands to coddle and protect every part of his body that is currently screaming in pain. Ace hunches behind him, digs his ring and middle fingers into the kid's nostrils, and hauls back as if ready to rip the nose off the youngster's face. Hoarsely screeching in agony, Cody has the presence of mind to turn and punch Aaron's in the gut. On the strength of that reversal, Cody gains steam and proceeds to pay the dirty heel back, tit for tat.

A young stud's confidence is a thing of beauty. Cody's vigorous payback is something you feel in your groin. But Ace cuts Cody's spot short and proceeds to ply him with three times the force of his first assault. Still, this is not the easy squash job Ace was expecting. Cody bounds off the ropes and smashes Aaron's midsection with a leg drop. The give and take goes on for ten more minutes, spanning the whole ring, favoring Ace more often than not, but giving fans a thrilling look at Cody's fiery temper and the effectiveness of his combat skills.

A few minutes past the match's midpoint, it looks like Cody is down and not getting up. He's belly down on the mat, breathing heavily through his mouth, his eyes vacant and blurry. Ace is counting, slowly, dramatically. At "six," Cody blinks and his body budges. "Don't you fucking do it," Ace cautions. But Cody clambers to his feet right after the count of 9. Ace is quick to greet him with a couple of punches to the jaw that throw Blayde against the turnbuckle.

For the last 10 minutes, the advantage spins rapidly from Ace to Cody to Ace again. This is the high point of the fight. Both men are exhausted and soaked in sweat, but they are far from slowing down! Too much is at stake. Each wrestler still has much to prove, to himself as much as to his foe ... and to the fans, too. Even with only seconds left, there's no predicting how this one will go down, yet down it does go as one man slams the other man to the mat with such brute force that the poor bastard can't get up for the 10 count. Wow!
